Gynoii: Smart and Innovative Baby Monitor We Love

Couple of weeks ago, I had the opportunity to try out for review a new Smart Baby Monitor, the Gynoii. This cool video baby monitor comes with a simple to use camera that transmits securely to your phone (iOS or Android device) over wifi. Cool right? There is also some fun features, let's have a look.

Cool features you will love:
You can time lapse video which allows you to create short video clip. It will condense 160 minutes of video into about 40 seconds. Fun to watch!

While you’re watching videos, you can take easy snapshots of your little one, anytime. You can share directly to your social media accounts all those cute moments with your close friends and family. You can then share them via Facebook, Twitter, send them as an email attachment or save in your gallery.

It can play lullaby or play your own customized play list.

Practicle features makes Gynoii, a smart baby monitor:

Audio only mode which allows you to continue using your phone while still listening to baby. Good to use at night, it can be used if you want to turn off the video while you’re in bed at night, but you’ll still be able to hear sound alerts if your baby wakes up.

A two way talk function so you can talk to your baby through the camera, a sound and motion alert sent to you to alert you that baby is awake. You have the possibility to choose between high quality, medium, or low video quality. Keep in mind that the video quality depends upon your home’s Internet. (Snapshots above are taken with medium quality).

The Gynoii works during the day, or at night time with its night vision feature. It will detect the darkness and automatically switch to night mode function. Easy.

Remote View/Multiple Viewers is a good feature because this monitor uses an app it allows you to share your username and password with others so they can monitor too. Works well if you are using the app on multiple devices. Mum and dad can both have the app on their phones. So daddy can peek in and say good night when he is out of town. Sweet, right!?

Getting started is easy:

The Gynoii baby monitor is simple to set up and the app easy to download and operate. You must have internet service in your home with a Wifi router and a smart phone such as the iPhone or the Android. Everything else you need is in the box! Super easy to set up, take it out of the box, download the app for free, scan the code, set up an account via the app and you are done! Once you have gone through the easy setup process the camera will begin transmitting to your phone. The process took me less then 10 minutes. Note: If you wish to view live streaming video from your workplace, while shopping, or anywhere else you will need a data plan package on your phone.

It comes with the hardware needed, you can mount the camera on the wall, place it on shelf or use the practical clipping holder, depending on the child age, reach and view you are looking for. I clipped the camera holder on to the crib for now but I might change if I feel that Josefin will try to reach for it.

So what's the conclusion…

We loved it! The Gynoii is reliable, and provides great video and images. Very easy to set up and to operate the many features. I was not using a baby monitor at home, I have been relying on my good ear and light sleeping skill to attend to Josefin if needed. While on holiday, I would use an baby monitor app with my iPhone and iPad but that had it's limitation.

Of course some time, I would wonder what is going on in her room but I would not open the door and peek in or I will disturb her. It's actually lovely "to check" on her while she's sleeping and helpful to sometime see what's the fussing about before going in.

If you are looking for a baby monitor, this one is a great all in one option. It does more than just monitor… You will love the snapshot and time lapse options. It's super user friendly and create daily memories for you to share and save. For more info check out: gynoii.com

The Gynoii is now available in Dubai, it's retails in Just Kidding for AED849.

The Organic Pharmacy in Dubai

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to attend the launch event of The Organic Pharmacy in Wasl Vita Mall in Jumeirah. I had never heard of the British brand before and was eager to visit what I thought would be my solution to finding herbal medicines and organic options to treat my family from everyday common health issues. It was not what I expected but I was still happily surprise to find a beauty and well-being shopping haven free from chemicals. I love the core principle " the best organic ingredients, honest expert advice, quality service, incredibly effective products and a caring environment."

The Organic Pharmacy in Dubai might not provide a solution for my girls common cold and cough but I will definitely find some great baby and mother skincare essentials based on homeopathic and herbal medicine. The brand carries a large selection of skincare, body, hair, health supplements even makeup and fragrance. The Organic Pharmacy is known for its premium grade herbal and homeopathic products and also its urban spa.

I look forward to try out some of treatments that are said to deliver optimal calming and rejuvenating experiences; soothing both the mind and body. Luxurious treatments include a signature, Rose Crystal Lymphatic facial, the Hydra-Diamond, Skin Solution, Vitamin C facial, Urban Purifying facial as well as indulgent body experiences. The Organic Pharmacy facials combine plant actives, cosmeceuticals and vitamins with signature massage techniques.

With the growing demand for organic products in Dubai, I believe The Organic Pharmacy will be a success.

And we love that Beam is available at The Organic Pharmacy. We are Beam fans!  Read our previous blog post about the most convenient and rewarding way to shop - a mobile app that makes shopping easier, safer and smarter. HERE!

Fun with Caboodle - ultimate pampering and play date!

Another great afternoon at Caboodle Citywalk. We have been Caboodle fans for years, read our previous blog post review HERE. The super cool multi-faceted space offer a lot of educational playing options and pampering bliss for mama and kiddos in a lovely bright and happy environment.

Luella is now 6 years old, she's on the last stretch of the Caboodle fun, she is soon to outgrow the play area. Still yesterday, she had a great time doing arts and craft and learning new skills with playdought. The pampering session is always a total hit with her and having her nails done in glittery pink is always a treat.

I am starting a new phase again with Josefin, at 8 months she's now ready to hit the indoor playground and socialise with other little babies and toddlers. I love Caboodle for the clean, happy and stimulating environment. The staff took great care of the girls and could adapt to their different age needs and interest.

While the girls were on the play side, mama had a lovely pampering treat. Manicure and pedicure are very meticulously done and I love slipping my hands and feet in the little bags of moisturising cream. In just minutes it does wonder - soft skin guaranteed. My blow-dry was perfect, bouncy curls efficiently done. In just over one hour, I was done... talking about efficiency!

Caboodle is located in Citywalk Jumeirah and in Dubai Mall. They offer different play options and classes. Drop off the kiddos for a few hours or spend quality time with them at one of our workshops. Choose from a range of creative classes for babies, toddlers, and kids in music, dance, gym, art, cooking, and much more!

Play rates
Accompanied by adult: AED70 and AED30 for additional hour / AED150 for a day pass
Drop-n-shop, creche supervised (from 18months) AED 70 for 30min

Practice yoga with your kids - By Mini Exchange

Contributing feature on the blog today… Thank you Mini Exchange for sharing yoga tips and benefits of yoga with the little ones.

A mother’s work is never done and it can be hard to find the time to exercise. Kids demand so much of you that your time is never really your own. Practicing yoga with your children is a fun way to spend quality time with them, and sneak in a great workout. Plus, you can instill the importance of exercise at a young age. Children are quite flexible so they shouldn’t have too much difficulty with the movements. Balance, however, is another story. Yoga teaches them balance, it connects a child with the parent, and their own bodies. It’s also great for their self-esteem. They will learn patience while they learn the poses, and feel a sense of accomplishment and pride when they imitate you and, after some practice, get it right!

What to wear for yoga
Before you even get started with the physical stuff, you need to ensure that your child is wearing suitable clothing for yoga. Don’t worry, you don’t need to rush out and buy a bunch of specific yoga apparel. The most important thing is that they are comfortable and can move easily. Choose breathable outfits made from cotton, like shorts or leggings, and t-shirts or tank tops. Opt for casual garments that can stretch with the body, and avoid items with zips, buttons, or Velcro fasteners. Ensure that their nails are clipped. There is no need for shoes or socks, bare feet are best.

Yoga teaches body awareness
Children learn how to place their hands and feet, and consciously feel what it’s like when their weight shifts. They’ll discover new approaches to use to move and position their bodies, and how to use different parts of their bodies for support.

Improve posture with yoga
Yoga teaches all students (kids and adults) how to properly align their bodies in each pose. This alignment draws the shoulders away from the ears, the pelvis underneath the ribcage, and eases the spine into a secure, neutral line. As a child improves and their muscles strengthen, they will be more adept at supporting their skeletal system. It’s a great way to establish a firm, muscular foundation

Yoga can help with behavioural issues
These days, kids have overwhelming schedules with school, extramural activities, homework, sports practices, and chores at home. This doesn’t leave much time for play. Crazy schedules can overburden a child and make them stressed. This can lead to lower immunity, depression, aggression, and acting out. By making time to do some yoga and the breathing techniques involved, children gain more control over their mental and emotional health.

Refine coordination and balance with yoga
One example is the tree pose. It requires you to stand on one leg, with the other bent and your foot pressing into your standing leg. This position requires balance and coordination, which helps kids to develop both fine and gross motor skills, and sensory processing. Yoga builds strength that helps kids be less clumsy, and teaches them how to catch themselves if they fall. It’s great for building independence!

Yoga improves mind-body connection
For anyone practicing yoga, there is a development of the mind-body bridge. Kids learn how to relax their muscles and joints by using breathing and mind control techniques. This is a valuable skill that they will possess throughout their life. A person’s mind can influence their physical health at any age.

Baby Skincare made with LOVE - Four Cow Farm

Tried, tested and LOVED… Four Cow Farm baby skincare!
This much loved 100% natural and organic skin care range is handmade on a farm in Australia by a Midwife, Mum & Grandmother (with hundreds of deliveries to her credit) who wanted to make creams and balms that were as good and natural as possible for her two little grandchildren (one of whom had eczema).

We had a super bath and after bath experience using some of those gorgeous natural products. It's truly wonderful to find those kind of unique skincare products made from scratch with organically grown, premium food grade natural ingredients. Using time-tested recipes and traditional ingredients, Nanna’s labour of love began as a gift to her two little ones - what a nice story!

If you like true, simple and honest products without the complex mix of unnecessary fragrances and chemicals so common today, and with absolutely no artificial additives or chemical hazards whatsoever, you will LOVE Four Cow Farm.

The line includes 7 products: Baby Wash , Nappy Cream , Calendula Remedy , Tea Tree Remedy , Baby Oil , Baby Lotion and Pohnpei Sponge - all made from lovely natural ingredients.

The Baby Wash is made from 100% Olive Oil Pure Liquid Castile Soap - very soft, hardly any fragrance. A good all in one kind of product for hair and body. The Baby Lotion is made from a blend of sweet almond and apricot kernel oils, natural preservatives, and olive-derived emulsifier. I liked the light almond smell… might keep that one for me. As Josefin doesn't have dry skin problems. Also used a few drops of the Baby Oil in her bath… made from blend of top quality oils such as macadamia, and sweet almond. The Calendula Remedy - Made from 80% organic calendula-infused olive oil. Good for soothing eczema and dry skin. The Tea Tree Remedy is made from a blend of macadamia & castor oils, infused with organic tea tree oil (anti-bacterial and anti-fungal). Great for bites, scrapes, rashes, cuts and bruises. I actually did not try on the children but on myself after being bitten by an ant - the creamed helped soothe and control the discomfort. I hear it's also great for mosquito bites or as insect repellent. Also recommended if you have a cold… add a dollop of our Tea Tree Remedy to warm water, stir gently to dissolve, and breathe in deeply. Love those multi-tasking product! A family must!

Today, the whole family is involved in helping to make and share Nanna’s products with mums, dads and bubs all over the world. The range is now sold in Dubai. You can find Four Cow Farm in organic, health & wellness stores like Holland & Barrett, The Change Initiative, and baby stores like DB Babies, Baby Souk, The Baby Boutique, Mumzworld, Noah's Garden and Nest for Kids in Abu Dhabi.

Glimpse into you … Dubai mum-entrepreneur Katia Najjar from Poupette à la plage ♥

I recently came across Poupette à la plage, a lovely homegrown children’s brand. I love the use of sweet Liberty London print and classic designs. The well crafted range includes swimwear for boys and girls, dresses, shorts, beach ponchos, hair-ties and much more for children between the ages of 6 months to 12 years old.

It definitely has a reminiscence of french inspired style and bring certain nostalgic sensibility. It's all very charming and remind my of my childhood in South of France. Walking into the recently opened flagship boutique in the new BOXPARK in Jumeirah, is also a trip to memory lane. A walk into the Cote d'Azure beach atmosphere with vintage French cabana, and the white washed distressed wood.

I had the opportunity to ask a few questions to Founder and Creative Director Katia Najjar about her clothing line best known for its swimwear and beach accessories, her new stand alone boutique and her inspiring Dubai life. And how as a mum entrepreneur, she manage to balance it all.

About you

Where are you originally from?
My Name is Katia Najjar. I am Lebanese French and I am married to Dr Rabee Abu-Kishek.

How long have you lived in Dubai?
Almost 7 years

Please tell us about Poupette a La Plage and what inspired you to start your business adventure?
Poupette à la plage are impeccably made chic beachwear and matching accessories for children. French brand which was conceived in the UAE. I had always wanted to be a full-time mum while being able to work at the same time. The concept of Poupette à la plage was appealing and while started as a small hobby selling a few swimwear items in a basked has turned into a fully pledged company.

Who inspires you?
My daughter Délia. As a young girl, she loved the story of a little princess on the beach who always looked pretty dressed up in a colorful swimsuit with ornate knots and matching accessories as well as being free carefree. The princess’s name was Poupette à la plage. I wanted to make the story a long-lasting memory, so Poupette à la plage beach and swimwear was created. My son, Liam, could not be left without and as the story had it, the little girl always played with her younger brother Liam on the beach and often were joined by friends. It was inevitable for me to launch of a cool boys’ apparel next. I named this range after my son’s name so it’s called it Liam à la plage

Any lessons learn alone the way?
Everyday is a lesson, be patient, persistent and have strong belief and conviction. It’s also important to be very clear when communicating to other with the team and outside.

About living in Dubai

What inspire you in/ about Dubai?
The cosmopolitan life and the diversity of cultures makes it challenging and aspirational at the same time!

Favorite thing to do in Dubai with children?
I love going bowling with them and we all like watching the stars at night. I also love to catch up with them and listen to what they have to say about what they have done in school and with their friends

What's your favorite way to spend the weekend?
A movie night and popcorn is becoming a habit. When we get the chance we love to go camping in the desert or hit the beach.

Do you have a Dubai secret to share with us?I love the flamingo place and Al Barari

A Dubai store you could spend hours browsing?
O’de rose I cannot get enough of all the chic bric a brac items, there is always something different for every lady’s taste… I feel nostalgic so the store brings back happy childhood memories!

A little extra..

Things you can't live without?

A chat with inspiring mumpreneur and best selling author Annabel Karmel

Last week, I had the chance to sat down at The Four Seasons Jumeirah with Annabel Karmel, the Queen of Children's Nutrition. I was honored to be offered the opportunity to meet the inspiring lady. She's UK’s number 1 and worldwide recognize children’s cookery author and expert on delicious, nutritious meals for babies, children and families. Mother of three children, she's a mumpreneur: founder and chief executive of Annabel Karmel Group Holdings, a company that includes her book royalties, her “Make it Easy” kitchen equipment range and branding rights for her various food ranges sold in many supermarkets.

Annabel's food philosophy and nutrition expertise came into our life when Luella (now 6) was a toddler. I loved looking into her books for ideas and inspiration - she made it look easy, yummy and healthy. Now with an 8 month old baby, I am all into weaning and introducing new food group and setting up healthy long term habits. Thanks to Annabel first best seller The Complete Baby and Toddler Meal Planner, I should be on the right track. Her new range of baby purées and snack available in Dubai supermarket will make lunch of the go a convenient and nutritious option.

Firstly we talked about her visit to the Middle East and her interest in Dubai. Annabel visited the UAE  during the Literary Festival a few years back, she discovered that the region has the second highest rate of diabetes in the world, and wanted to help mothers of diabetic children here. Getting to the problem early with children, by teaching them to eat healthy is the best way to control the issue of diabetes and obesity. "If you target children, that’s the best way to try to beat this: get kids to eat well early on, because it is very difficult to break habits after the age of 5." Annabel new range of food available in Spinney’s like baby pasta, food crisps & a whole range of products for babies & children will help busy mums provide an healthy food choice. It's also a great way to control what's given to your child if you are not the one looking after your child during the day.

As a successful author with a catalogue of 37 books published in the last 20 years, I asked her which of her book she would recommend as initial purchase? For a new mom, she would definitely say the Complete Baby & Toddler Meal Planner which was her very first book. Since launching the book in 1991, it has stood the test of time as it is still the UK’s number one best-selling book on feeding babies and children after more than two decades. It includes nutritional guidance on how to give your baby the best start in life with easy recipes for babies and toddlers and lots of time-saving tips and meal planners.

I started the weaning process with Josefin, couple of months a go. I was interested to ask Annabel about mums common concern when time comes to start solid food / puree. Allergies are a common concern. Annabel says: "There’s this theory that one of the reasons there’s a higher instance of allergies is because we’re bringing up babies in a very sterile environment." She believe it's harmful to not stimulate a baby's immune system properly. She recommend to introduce eggs or peanut butter from six months (provided that there’s no history of allergy in the family). "A lot of parents avoid really important foods like eggs - which are actually very nutritious - because they worry about allergies, but by avoiding these foods they’re probably doing more harm than good. For example, well-cooked scrambled eggs are packed with iron and important nutrients," Annabel says.

I asked annabel about fussy eaters and what's her best advise. Let them be hungry she replied! Fussy eaters tend to stick to four things, but if you allow your child to be hungry and don’t give them an alternative, they will eat different things. Also, the way that you present the food to your child is very important, because very often they will say something is ‘yucky’, but that’s just because they don’t like the look of it. Another good idea is to get the  kids involved in cooking. It's fun, but it’s also highly educational.

We talked about the connection between the habits mums bring in when their children are young and the habits and attitudes to food when adults. The first few years of a child’s life dictate their diet in the future. In the first few years their eating habits are formed. There is a window of opportunity between six to 12 months to make sure your babies preference in taste leans more towards healthy food rather than the junk food.

An easy tip for busy mum? Freezing! Annabel recommends: “Make purees for your baby in big batches which you can freeze in little individual portions and then defrost for mealtimes.”

With three children herself, I was interested to know how did she manage juggling the work-family balance"I made a conscious effort to ensure I was organised and prepared so that when we all came home from a busy day, there was a good, wholesome meal awaiting my family." Annabel suggest a one meal rule; so many parents end up cooking separate meals for the children. Try making a large fish pie or lasagne and pop small individual portions in ramekins for the children. Wholesome meals needn’t be expensive either; frozen fruit and vegetables can be cheaper than fresh, but just as nutritious. Dried and canned lentils and beans are also great as they’re full of nutrients; ideal for bulking up meals and inexpensive.

Annabel has been very open about why and how she started this incredible journey and became the queen of children's nutrition after the death of her baby girl. So I asked Annabel the mumpreneur, what was the best advise she received when she started? Of course choosing something that you love and do some research - to find a gap in the market. Her recently released book Mumpreneur is a great tool for mum start-ups. I  am currently reading it and feel confident it will be inspiring and loaded with tips and advice on taking a personnel business to the next level. She describe women as individual with entrepreneurial spirit (and military multitasking skills) who have passion and strength to transform their passions into thriving businesses.

It has been an honor to bring Dubai our Sandbox readers this exclusive interview with Annabel Karmel. We look forward to welcome her again soon in Dubai.
