That glow...

With the change of season, our skin needs a little help to keep it's glow. To avoid the dull and lifeless appearance, Dr. Rehab Sattouf, Dermatologist at the Beverly Hills Aesthetic & Medical Centre shares some rcommendations for adapting a skincare regime to obtain a healthy and radiant glow. Here's a gentle reminder for your skincare routine...

Exfoliate once a week to remove dead cells and dry flaky skin, thus promoting cell renewal

Moisturize, use a milk or lotion-based moisturiser as it contains lactic acid, essential for hydrating the skin. Moisturise twice a day, especially after a shower. Gently scrub feet with a pumice stone before applying the moisturizer . For acne prone skin, use

a non-comedogenic lotion. Limit baths and showers to maximum 10 minutes to prevent skin from drying up. Try and use warm water as opposed to very hot water. For smooth and nourished skin, use products containing shea butter, petroleum, tea tree oil or glycerin

Hair: massage the scalp and hair with olive or coconut oil before washing it. Avoid the use of blow dryers and hair styling products that have a high alcoholic content as it strips away moisture from the hair.

Despite of change in weather, it is vital to use a sunscreen that protects from both UVA and UVB. SPF 30 is recommended.

Cleansing: remove make-up with a mild cleanser before sleeping

Watch what you eat: Consume food loaded with protein, vitamin C and vitamin E. Nuts, pomegranates, salmon, dried cranberries and avocado restore the skin’s natural balance

Little extra: Protect nails by applying olive oil or lotion containing lanolin, before sleeping
Stay hydrated by drinking lots of water. “It is important to use products that are suitable for your skin type and condition; so, be sure to check labels in order to choose the most appropriate product for you. says Dr. Rehab.

A few things...

♥ This week I met with the lovely team behind JustEssential, to view their great range of baby essentials. A collection of locally produced top quality yet budget priced baby and child products created especially for the Middle East's parenting needs. All available online and at JustKidding stores.

♥ ‘Mom’s Little Secret,’ a first-of-its kind book in the GCC launched by Babyshop for expecting and new mothers. The book brings together the opinions of 27 experts and features over 40 articles providing expert advice and tips on the various stages of pregnancy and childcare, right from the prenatal period until toddlerhood. A great initiative from Babyshop, to provide mothers, particularly first-time mothers, with advice from trusted professional sources. Grab your copy in Babyshop across the UAE.

♥ A fresh wintery drink to inspire: Cranberry & Rosemary White Sangria

♥ All about the rings - we like.

♥ Came accross the cute collection from GAP in collaboration with Kate Spade and Jack Spade. It's very sweet, fun and whimsycle, packed with playful pieces and quirky details. All very practical, we like the color blocking, stylized camouflage, cartoon eyes details, bows, polka dots and Kate Spade's signature idioms. See it here.

♥ Now reading: French Children Don't Throw Food by Pamela Druckerman. As a journalist and desperate mother, Druckerman was keen to uncover the secret of French parenting while living in Paris. A world where babies slept through the night from two months, ate at adult meal times, often attended nursery from nine months, where they ate a varied and sophisticated diet and didn't throw their dinners at you or on the floor. Fun, whity and easy to read.  Full review up soon, watch this space.

Mountain Buggy Fitness Class - Post Natal fitness

It's time! Josefin turned 9 weeks yesterday, 2 months post delivery, I need to get back into some kind of exercise. Remember my previous blog post, couple of weeks ago about a Buggy Fitness class for new moms? Well, I tried it out this morning! Nice class, great trainer and lovely ladies. I signed up for 12 classes!

Mountain Buggy Fitness is about "getting out there and being active" whilst still being with your little one. Like Olivia our lovely trainer puts it "Having a child doesn't need to be a restriction to fitness and your well being".

This morning class was held at Al Ittihad Park on Palm Jumeirah, from 8.30 to 9.30. Consisting of warm up, stretching to improve flexibility, cardiovascular and strength exercises, core and pelvic floor strengthening exercises. Olivia will assure that the training session fits your level and will take in consideration your post delivery condition. The program has been developed specifically for women who have had babies to regain their pre pregnancy body composition and fitness, with particular focus on strengthening the core, toning up the bum and thighs, improving strength and muscle tone on the shoulders and arms. It's a gentle form of boot camp for new moms, but I did feel challenged at time and definitely happy afterward. It's a fun class, with a good variety of exercises, running and recovery time.

Mountain Buggy Fitness Class is a great way to get back into shape, be outdoor, offer fresh air to the little ones and meet new friends. After one class, I realize how much I need to sign up for this! My cardio level need to improve, as well as my overall strength. I trust Olivia to help me get back into my pre pregnancy body fitness level. She specialize in post natal exercises and understand the effects that pregnancy hormones still have on the body. The right combination of cardiovascular exercises which increase the heart rate, burning off excess calories and body fat; and strength training by using your own body weight performing exercises such as squats, lunges, and press-ups which increase body tone and give you a high resting metabolism. And most importantly in a safe way, I will strengthen the core area which is weakened and stretched through pregnancy. That's the plan!
