Glipmse into you: meet our readers

About you...
Where are you originally from?
I’m half Iranian and half Sudanese and was born in San Francisco
and raised in Vancouver!

How long have you lived in Dubai?
I’ve lived in Dubai for 6 years and have loved every minute of it!

You are a very busy and successful entrepreneur, tell us a little about
your businesses, fishfayce and
fishyfayce was the first concept of its kind to launch in the region in 2010. The fishfayce
digital photobooth is essentially a capsule that houses gadgets, gizmos, and software that
enable those who interact with it to spontaneously and repetitively photograph themselves
and others, on the fly. Guests step in front of fishfayce, frame their shot and click
the remote. The pictures are stored digitally, and can be instantly projected on to any
large surface. They can also be instantly printed as take-away mementos.
Aside from the photo booth concept, we also offer; event photography and videography,
fishfayce video booth, fishfayce animation; helping clients to customise their own videos,
and fishfayce rovers; fishfaycers’ talented rovers blend into the crowd, taking great
branded shots guests which can then be printed on the spot. In addition to this, fishfayce
lite is a lighter version of the fishfayce photo booth; it offers clients an assortment of
new filtering options, images and all at an affordable price, ideal for more intimate events
and is perfect for kid’s birthday parities and celebrations. Finally fishfayce fishtogram,
is a new and unique service that takes your one-of-a-kind instagram photos and prints
them in the flesh and on the spot.

As well as founding fishfayce, I am also co-founder of the online party shop
which I set up with my sister Zahra at the beginning of this year. Moushii is a one-stop-shop
for all party necessities, to help people to celebrate life’s occasions. My sister and I came
together to focus on offering individual customers and party/event planners unique party
pieces that help to give every celebration a beautiful look and feel. Moushii provides
consumers and planners with everything from all-inclusive party packs available to
purchase off-the-rack, do-it-yourself party supplies and printables, right through to
couture themes and personalised designs.

Any business tips, advices or words of wisdom for aspiring woman
entrepreneur out there?
Don’t stop being passionate about what you do. When your passionate about what you do,
you’re on top of things, you’re programmed towards achievement. It’s incentive. When you
see results, you work harder. Also there is plenty of support out there for start-ups you just
have to search for it. I always try to stay as focused and organised as I can and really believe
in work life balance  - “ don’t forget to step back and spend time with friends, family or
even yourself - “ it helps to have balance.

About living in Dubai...
What inspire you in/ about Dubai?
Dubai and the UAE have played such a pivotal role in the success of fishfyace and now
moushii too. What’s so great about living in Dubai is that you get to meet so many interesting, passionate and determined individuals and entrepreneurs that are in the same boat as you -
“ facing the same challenges and enjoying working for themselves, and for something
that they truly believe in.

Favorite thing to do in Dubai with the family?
Kite beach at the weekends when the weather is nice. Other than that I’m a huge fan
of dinner parties at home or with friends. In fact at Moushii we are just in the process
of launching a brand new ‘Come Dine with Me’ inspired dinner party pack for adults,
so I can’t wait to try that out with friends, and get a little competitive in the kitchen!

Do you have a Dubai secret to share with us?
Ostadi Iranian restaurant in Bur Dubai - “ they serve the best kebabs and delicious
Iranian food.

Where would you go on a weekend getaway?
I’ve never been to Zighy Bay Resort but have heard great things from friends.
That’s top of my list along with the Banyan Tree, Ras Al Khaimah.

A little extra...
Things you can't live without?
My husband and family for sure. They have all been extremely supportive over
the years and I certainly wouldn’t be where I am today without them.

Do you have a beauty secret to share with us?
Not really a secret but I do have my favourite cult beauty products, which I always
relay on to look fresh, these include; Chanel Foundation, cream blush, lip gloss
and eye shadow. I’m also a big fan of YSL Touché Éclat, Diorshow Blackout
Mascara, Kiehls Ultra Facial Moisturiser and Elizabeth Arden Beauty Flash Balm.

How do you keep in shape, what's your healthy secret?
Physique 57 that is a barre based workout with intervals . They are based in Citywalk
in Jumeirah at the moment. I’ve been going there for several months now and can really
feel the difference.

Do you have a life motto?
This quote says it perfectly. We are always focused on what won’t work and our fears
that we forget about the positives. “Forget about all the reasons why something may
not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will."~ Dr. Robert Anthony

Also, do what you love and do it well.

Mothercare surprise us!

After a Mothercare Media event yesterday, I am happy to say that Mothercare is stepping up a node! Something is happening in the style and marketing department within the brand. I was surprise to find more then the basic and classic items they usually offer. Some style and boldness came through in some really cool pieces.

The Baby K collection got inspiration in the world of retro to rock with a great use of colors like luxurious tones of gold, with a dash of vivid winter pink and cobalt blue for girls, and a mix of classic navy and bordeaux with a bright burst of autumn orange for the boys. Playful, practical and stylish! BabyK is a hit, creating an affordable and cool collection for kids.

Another surprise was the collaboration between two leading iconic British brands to create one amazing pram: The the Silver Cross Surf – Aston Martin Edition. Beautifully designed, the exclusive baby travel system is now available only at Mothercare. With Aston Martin detailing and Silver Cross design and experience, the award winning Silver Cross Surf has reached new heights. The Aston Martin marque features throughout this exquisite pram from the striking wheels through to the Alcantara lined seat pad to the super soft Italian leather trimmed handle and bumper bar. The Silver Cross air-ride suspension guarantees a smooth ride on all terrains and the multi-position handlebar ensures comfortable pushing for everyone. Only 800 of the model worldwide each with its own certificate of authenticity and an engraved brushed chrome plaque confirming that each pram is one of a kind. Feeling the love?! Yes its quite unique, stunning and so british! Love it.

Some love for Dubai EXPO 2020

The excitement over the Expo 2020 host city announcement is growing. Just over a month until the representatives from the 167 member nations of the Paris-based Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) cast their votes. We will know on November 27th if our amazing city is the official host of the World Expo, one of the most internationally renowned global exhibitions.

As you know, four cities have bid  for the world's fair in 2020: Dubai, UAE / Ekaterinburg, Russia /  Izmir, Turkey / Sao Paulo, Brazil. No matter the winer, it will be a first in the history of the World Expo. If Dubai or Izmir win, it will be the first Middle Eastern expo, or it can be the first Russian world's fair if Ekaterinburg wins or Sao Paulo victory would make it the first world's fair in South America. It's all very exciting.

Have you seen "Ali’s Film"? It's a less then 5 minutes recap on Dubai and the expo 2020 through the eyes of 10 year old Emirati schoolboy Ali. He talks about ‘the greatest city in the world’, shows us some of the UAE’s most iconic landmarks, and answers the questions ‘Why Dubai?’ The video was produce has a boost to support the bid to host the expo. What do you think?

Dubai is said to be a favorite in the nominees. Under the theme of "connecting minds, creating the future," Dubai aims to be winning city host. The proposed venue for the World Expo is located in Dubai World Central's exhibition district (Dubai Trade Centre - Jebel Ali) close to the Al Maktoum International Airport but also DWC's surrounding amenities and facilities to come. As a Dubai resident, a guest of many years, I wish Dubai the best of luck and sincerely hope it will be the winning city. I hope it will be a victory used wisely and a great event to showcases spectacular exhibitions, pavilions and cultural events by international organizations, businesses and nations from around the world. It's an opportunity to do something great and raise awareness toward many issues like sustainable development, global economy and the quality of life and so much more! Go Dubai!

French goûter for kids... and you!

This is probably one the easiest and most kid friendly recipe ever. A 5 years old is "kind of" able to do it by herself with little supervision. We call it "gateau au yahourt", it's basically a simple yogurt cake that I sometime make on Saturday morning as a treat, served warm with butter and jam. Most french household makes (or use to) this kind of cake for "le goûter" (afternoon snack). It has pass on to generations because of it's simplicity and good taste...

You will need:
- 1 single plain yogurt pot like activia
keep the pot, it become your measurement for the recipe.
- 1 pot of yogurt
- 2 pots (or little less for my taste) of sugar
- 2 pots of flour
- 1 pot of vegetable oil
- 3 eggs
- 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
- vanilla extract
- pinch of salt

Preheat oven 200°C
- Mix yogurt and sugar, then add the eggs, vanilla
- Add oil
- Add flour, baking powder and pinch of salt
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, and bake for 30 minutes, until the top is golden brown and a cake tester comes out clean. Serve warm with some butter and jam... just or plain with a cup of coffee. Enjoy, bon appetite!

Launch Event Roberto Cavalli Junior

Mr Roberto Cavalli was in town for launch event of the ‘Roberto Cavalli Junior’
boutique in Dubai Mall.

The well designed space represents the Roberto Cavalli Junior brand concept beautifully,
using some decorative elements, which characterize the ‘Roberto Cavalli Junior’ brand. Loved the excessive use of leopard-print with some mother-of-pearl ivory finishings,
shiny brass details and Swarovski crystals heart-shaped wall decor.
Flamboyant, fun and glamourous, ... oh so Cavalli! Nothing to be disappointed with!

Some really beautiful little girls outfits using floral patterns and animal prints in true Cavalli spirit.
Check out the collection here.

A special 30 Anniversary in the UAE - The Body Shop

Couple of days ago, I was very pleased to celebrate The Body Shop 30th anniversary of trading in the UAE. I grew up with The Body Shop, as a teenager I got my first eye make up from the brand. Lots of memories comes to mind when I look back. In 1995, when I arrived in Dubai with my parents, Dubai was not the shopping haven, it is now! The Body Shop store in Jumeirah was a beauty blessing for a teenager girl, a bit lost in the desert... I loved it! It's a family brand who appeal to different generations from mom to daughter.

The event celebrating The Body Shop 30 years achievement was hosted in their flagship store in Mall of The Emirates by Sultan Al Habtoor, Franchisee partner of The Body Shop in the UAE. The evening was also the occasion to launch the White Musk Smoky Rose Fragrance. A new signature fragrance based on the original iconic White Musk fragrance but this time the scent is more tantalising and floriental, an elegant and seductive approach created by the Sophie Labbé, the ‘nose’ behind the scent. I really enjoyed talking the the lovely Sophie, explaining with passion her take on the new fragrance, "fusion of bergamot, pink pepper and blackcurrant before rising to a floral-musky heart" and "bouquet of bittersweet tobacco flower and a unique black smoky rose accord is tempered by delicate orange flower".

The real emphasis should be put on the GOOD that stand for The Body Shop, the core values established by the brand. Pioneer of the time (70's) before organic and environment issues were some trendy marketing tools. 1/ The brand was already committed to reducing the impact on the environment by reducing the energy consumed and generating less waste and also changing attitudes around the world. 2/ The Body Shop source some of the finest raw ingredients from the four corners of the globe. They harness the skills of artisan farmers and add expertise to create effective products that are wonderful to use. They have 25 Community Fair Trade suppliers. 3/ All The Body Shop® products are certified by Cruelty Free International as meeting their Humane Cosmetics Standard. 4/ Ethical Trading is about brands, retailers and suppliers taking responsibility for the working conditions of the people who make the products they sell. It's about making sure that workers are treated fairly, with dignity and respect. Those are just examples of the beautiful core values of the brand. Not to be forgotten and also incentive to the customer purchase.

The highlight of the evening was for me talking to Christina Archer about the Fair Trade suppliers of The Body Shop. This amazing lady had beautiful stories about places and people visited and deep passion for the Fair Trade process behind the brand. Very inspiring! And I love my personalized, engraved fragrance... A treat!

De La Mer Spa... an intimate spa retreat.

What a lovely morning yesterday... A real treat from De La Mer Spa, a boutique wellness spa located on Jumeirah Road, in beautiful a 14,000 square foot garden. The recently opened haven offers an array of facilities and treatments in a serene environment at very reasonable prices. Very convenient, this inviting sanctuary is a place to relax, get back in shape and get yourself all pampered, all under one roof! A one stop destination for busy moms on the go...

From a large repertoire of spa treatments (facials, massages, hammams, and hydro therapy), I decided to try VOYA Organic Lavender and Seaweed Sugar Glow Body Scrub Treatment. It's a unique experience, using VOYA brand, the world's first seaweed certified organic based product. I had a look at the range of products and the story behind it... "VOYA have used generations of acquired wisdom about the sea to bring you an organic beauty range designed to delight and purify your body. Based on our wonderful hand-harvested seaweed, certified organic and our knowledge of the local traditions of seaweed baths and seaweed treatments, we strive to bring you the full power of nature in its purest forms throughout our VOYA range." Absolutely one of my new favorite! The treatment itself was a real delight, sticky but so revitalizing. The very knowledgeable therapist explained to me the process and benefits. Very methodical with the scrub application, in a vigorous but luxurious way. A warm shower to rinse followed by an amazing massage with soothing body oil. My skin felt (still do) amazingly soft and glowy.

What makes De La Mer Spa so appealing to me is the intimate, very accessible, home away from home feel to it. I loved the serene non intimidating experience in very affordable but luxurious way.

Guests can enjoy the private garden and pool area for the day, and practice outdoor yoga, it's a lovely way to unwind mommies! Or hire the VIP room for group of friends or a party and enjoy treatments, the Jacuzzi and relaxation with total privacy. So many possibility... ‘We want our members and guests to enjoy and treat the spa as if it’s their club. With all it has to offer we feel confident they can really benefit from the number of beauty, fitness and treatment options all under one roof. As the weather cools people are increasingly coming to enjoy the private space the garden offers; a real rarity in Dubai’, said spa owner, Moira Pirzad.

Membership: a day pass to use the spa’s facilities (excluding treatments) is 80AED, and a monthly pass for the same is 300AED. The VOYA Organic Lavender and Seaweed Sugar Glow Body Scrub Treatment retail for AED300. Check out for more details,  price list and special offers. The De La Mer Spa is a little Dubai gem.

New Generation of Skincare

It looks like, I have find my " magic cream"! You know the one you can rely on to cheer up your tired face in the morning, brighten up your complexion and protect you from the day ahead of you. Thanks to Dr Maurizio Viel's skincare line, I have a new beauty routine for my skin.

The London Centre for Aesthetic Surgery established in 1990 by brothers Doctors Maurizio and Roberto Viel, fully qualified surgeons with international certification in cosmetic surgery and Fellows of a number of renowned associations throughout Europe and the United States of America, is one of the top Centre for Aesthetic Surgery in Dubai. Providing "the highest standard of medical treatment with the aim of heightening the patients self esteem and inner confidence."

The Dr Viel Skincare Range, created by A-list dermatologists, offers new possibilities and hope in the anti aging world of skincare: “The biggest advance in dermatologist-created skincare products is that they now have a more direct link with the injections these professionals give. They contain ingredients …that mimic the effects you get from injectable fillers.”

I have been using Dr Viel's X118 Intense Hydrating Serum for three weeks and I am totally addicted to it! A fantastic oil-free moisture retaining lipid serum with Hyaluronic Acid. This tissue hydrating serum has the ability to hold 1000 times its weight in moisture and is excellent for daily use to replace and lock in moisture. The main ingredient of hyaluronic acid is virtually unmatched in hydrating the skin because of its ability to retain water more effectively than any other natural substance. I can guaranty my skin appeares smoother, softer with more elasticity. The serum promise to prevent and revserse the skin's ageing process. The application is a real pleasure, like applying a very delicate and fast absorbing kind of oil to your face. The skin is imidiatly softer and firmer.

Also available Tinted Moisturisers X155, oil-free tinted moisturiser with total protection sunscreen that provides maximum protection against UVA and UVB rays. The tinted pigmentation provides sheer coverage for beautiful skin. The oil-free tinted moisturiser combines both titanium dioxide and zinc oxide to provide a physical barrier between UV rays and skin thereby producing the greatest defense against sun damage. You feel like you are safe to face the day and the powerful and damaging Dubai sunlight.  I have been using it now and then during my morning routine, as sheer foundation, when I feel I need some coverage as it definately provides an even skin tone effect.

Overall a fantastic and very "intelligent" line of skincare created by trusted dermatologists and surgeons. Visit to know more about Dr Viel Skincare Range available only through LCAS

Let's get in the spooky mood already...

Halloween is just a few weeks away and stores are stocking up already on the festive items! From Park'nShop, Carrefour, Diso and Fida in Satwa... you can find pretty much anything you need to decorate the house, make costumes or find party tricks and treats... I am loving this time of the year.

What will you dress up as this year?! Luella has a very girly habit of choosing character book, princess or mermaid costumes. This year she picked a witch! But a PRETTY witch as she puts it. So will have to come up with some ideas... should not be too much of a challenge.

To get in the party mood check out lil'luna blog for DIY costumes ideas. You can also visit Caboodle at Dubai Mall for some Halloween arts&craft, Scary Mask Makers Workshop is on every Wednesday of October, 3 to 7 pm. The list of Halloween parties for kids around Dubai is long! Pretty much every playground is launching it's party from Mini Monsters, Favourite Things, Super Dooper ... Make sure to visit this month for all the listing.

More Halloween ideas check our previous posts...
