Quint: creative fix

Have you read about Quint, the online magazine? How come I have not heard about it before? The issue #13 is currently out, and I only just find out about the very well designed online publication. Maybe because, I am a mum and my days revolve around nursery drop off, Spiney's shopping, yoga, blogging and playdate at the park! Despite my communication design background, the fact that I did art school in NYC and my interest for visual art and photography… I feel far away from the design community and the art scene. But thanks to Quint, I got a little taste of it again.

So, what is Quint magazine? A publication based in Dubai, launched by a boutique design studio. The intelligent content covers design, photography, film, fashion, culture, lifestyle and events. It's a platform for talented creative minds to express themselves, display their work, connect with others and inspire us.

I love their design approach - graphics, layout and photography.

You can read Quint online here or find the printed version in major Dubai outlets like Virgin, news stands, galleries, coffee shops and creative hubs. It's FREE.

DVF + GapKids = too cool for school

I am looking forward to discover Diane Von Furstenberg's collaboration with Gap Kids. Watch the preview video to get a sneak pick at the colorful collection launching March 15th.

Good morning,
I am blogging from the ultra nice "of the moment" MAKE Business Hub.  This new concept in town, located in the Marina, is a café/work station/meeting spot/creative hub for the mobile worker, freelancer, blogger and anyone looking for a space to work, connect or just be with a good coffee.

The place offers a welcome atmosphere with it's friendly staff and well designed space. Available all day from breakfast to dinner, MAKE serves healthy dishes like salads, sandwiches and light meals.

Have a go even if you are not a freelancer, enjoy a bite and take a look at the inspiring book selection. You will instantly feel part of the cool and creative community.

I am feeling all "warm inside" and motivated to redesign the blog! That's what a coffee at MAKE did to me and so much more... Seek inspiration!

Market Day

Had a nice time looking around the stalls of Ripe Market this morning at Dubai Garden Center. We enjoyed the beautiful weather, had delicious coffee from Raw and Luella was entertained with face painting. Just a lovely Saturday morning.

Smile, it's pancake day !

Today is Pancake Day in the UK. For us in France we celebrated Crêpes Day - "Chandeleur" on February 2nd. Not only we eat a lot of crêpes on Chandeleur, but it is traditional to hold a coin in your hand and a crêpe pan in the other, and flip the crêpe into the air. If you manage to catch the crêpe in the pan, your family will be prosperous for the rest of the year. I like traditions...

Anyway... I am ready for more pancakes...

Pancake Day is also known as Shrove Tuesday in the Christian calendar, and is celebrated as Carnival and Mardi Gras elsewhere in the world. It falls just before Lent, and was traditionally a day of fun and feasting before the fasting during 40 days of Lent.

Looking for a classic pancake recipe, here it is!

Zaroob's street food

Sunday night, diner at Zarrob was a real treat! Have you been to this "oh so cool and different" food grub nestled on Sheik Zayed Rd by interchange 1? You won't miss the large green and pink neon lights logo outside. The Koshari stand in front of the restaurant give an idea of the theme: Levant street food.

We walked into a busy and eclectic space. The interior is designed around concrete and metallic walls ornamented of graffiti and stencil decor (Smurf / pop icon, Om Kathoum / Arabic icon) mixed with rustic wooden furniture. Cans of Kraft cheese, corned beef, olive oil and Nutella are on display to create a authentic but modern food joint.

On the menu a range of classic Arabic family food dishes like Mana'ish, a wood oven baked flat bread which is served open or folded with fillings such as cheese, sumac, zaatar and meat. Don't miss Foul, traditional breakfast dish made of beans, lemon juice, olive oil and garlic but also the Saj bread, falafel, hummus or fried halloumi on a stick. The traditional poor man dish from Egypt called Koshary is a must try at least for the novelty! Imagine, mixing into a single dish, pasta, rice, lentil, chick peas, fried onions and garlic and adding to this chili sauce.

The menu is extensive and very reasonably priced. The best way to enjoy all popular dishes from across the Arab World is to order a selection and share.

Zaroob is located in Jumeirah Tower, next to Al Attar Business Tower (with HSBC) on Sheikh Zayed Road.

Open from 9am to 12 midnight.

Another cupcake - but a good one!

Looks like the cupcake trend is still on... What started as a novelty a decade ago in New York with Magnolia Bakery is now a set and well established business opportunity. Cupcakes shops and online business are flourishing. Dubai offers many options...

There is something sweet and vintage about this all American favorite. I love the cute individual size, and the fact that they are so personalized. We all have our favorite, some people like one kind of cupcake, some like another and they can be dressed-up to suit every occasion.

I thought macarons would be the new cupcake; however, the French treat is too difficult to make and probably won't go completely mainstream. Maybe cake pops are the new trend?!

Yesterday, I got to try Airy Fairy delicious cupcakes at a birthday party. What a treat, buttery and flavorful! There is a large selection of interesting flavors and toppings. You can also request cupcakes free from- nuts, gluten, eggs and dairy! Looking for more sweets treats to order check out the cake pops, homemade marshmallows and fudge.

Every order is made fresh on the day of purchase. Closed Fridays.
1 batch of cupcakes is 12 pieces
110dhs per batch.
48hrs notice for orders is preferred

Click! Photo!

The "February- A photo a day challenge" starts today... I am excited to do it!  I look forward to take shots of things other than me and Luella or my hubby.

This morning, I dropped off Luella to nursery and went for my morning run by the beach... Before speeding away I took a moment to look around and appreciate my surroundings. I think this "challenge" is a neat idea... it might just help us take a moment in our busy life, and focus on something you normally wouldn't have focused on before. It's precious.

Join the fun. Here's the list of topic for everyday, it's up to you to interpret the topic. Take a snap shot of it. Share it on Instagram, your blog, facebook, twitter or keep it for you and make memories.
