The Eco Superstore

This week, I ventured into The Change Initiative: Dubai's first retail destination to sell only sustainable products. The 4,000 square meter store carries a range of sustainable living solution for energy conservation, water management, organic food, cosmetics, and lifestyle iteams. Looking around, you will find a bit of everything… a small selection of food items, non toxic cleaning products from Ecovert, clothing selection, wooden toys for children, cooking wear and even furniture. If you are into furniture design you will love the small selection of chairs from Vitra.

The Change Initiative aims to influence people into making more responsible lifestyle choice by offering a wide delection of "green" products. We believe it's a great initiative, thumbs up!

What did I buy: couple of cleaning product and food items that I could have probably get at the Organic Shop. I also find a few gift ideas for Christmas! Some non toxic nail polish (blog post to follow) for Luella and her girl friends, lovely soy wax candle and table wear item.

Special note: there is a large coffee shop "The taste Initiative" which offer more than just coffee… lovely and healthy breakfast, light quick lunch all prepared in the most sustainable way with the freshest ingredients.

Something to look forward to...

Now that Halloween and Eid are behind us, I look forward to the next holiday festivities. Jump past Thanksgiving for a minute and dream of Christmas... I know it's only early November but shops are displaying their first decorations already and Winter Fairs and Christmas Market will be advertised anytime soon.

Here is a sneak peak on a fantastic new event this year, The Dubai Christmas Festival. A three days show being held in Dubai Media City. This outdoor festival should bring families and friends together to prepare and celebrate the up coming winter holidays. It's about festive food, winter wonderland entertainment, Christmas music, shopping for gifts and meeting Santa in his grotto. A fantastic initiative for us expat missing the Christmas Spirit from back home.

Looking forward to this special treat! December 6 to 8, 2012, Dubai Media City

hOme made scent

Lovely smell in the house brings a smile to my face and warmth to the spirit...

Fancy scented candles can get expensive. Last year during the Christmas season I tried a great recipe, a homemade concoction that smell delicious in the house... Check out this post! Now, I have come across another version, the Williams Sonoma secret recipe. Courtesy of, One more moore.

Simple ingredients like lemon, vanilla and rosemary simmering for hours on the stove. Your house will smell sweet and delicious... Easy!

You will need:
Small cooking pot filled about 2/3 full with water, 1 lemon, sliced, and a few sprigs of rosemary. Let it simmer all day long, adding water as needed. Amazing!

My Blogging spot

Recently I was asked "where do you blog ?" and "when?" Suggesting that my readers would like to get a small pick at the behind the scene.

The answer is anywhere really! I use my iPhone to "write" down ideas and thoughts on the go. When I get more time, I settle down to finish the writing process and upload on the blog. Usually in the evening or during Luella's nap. I get comfy with a cup of green tea, some almond... and Diptyque scented candle to please the senses.

What about you fellow bloggers?

Ready for October...

Good morning and happy October!

Looking forward to Halloween festivities, I hope to inspire you with some spooky stylish fun. It's also breast cancer awareness month and there is plenty of way to get involved. More this month? Planing to introduce you to an inspirational lady. And so much more... Keep you posted!

A Pampers Mummy Blogger experience

As a blogger, I had the opportunity to attend the second of its kind 'Mommy Blogger Academy' in the UAE, last week. The lovely event took place at delicious Baker and Spice, Souk Al Bahar with super mom entrepreneur and blogger Jenny Haddad from www.dubaimumsclub.com as a guest speaker.

Another App post!

I really love my iPhone (but I admit I never tried any other android phone and I am mac user). I can't go anywhere without it, and I am very dependent of the apps I use. From Facebook, Instagram, texting friends, looking up things on Google, sending birthday card and love note with RedStamp, calendar and day planing... It's my tool box for everything!

I have compiled a list of apps, you might already know some... feel free to share with us your ultimate favorite apps.

Best to do list, Wunderlist. You can create many lists and sync them to your computer. I have many list like "things to buy", "blog post ideas", "Luella", "grocery", "school",... and that's how this task and management tool keeps me organized. The other great organizer help is cozy family. The useful app that helps you manage the family schedule, organize shopping lists and to do lists all in one place. Both free.

For new mum Baby Connect: If you’re expecting a baby or have an under 3 months old, it's a useful buy. This app will let you know when baby last slept and for how long, last ate, when you last changed diaper... You will also like the milestone records, and all the useful extra like pediatric visit, medical infos, photos. A good baby tracker device for parents to track, log and share daily information about their babies.

Put it in the Pocket! It’s a reader, a bookmarker and formatter. Every time you find an article you’d like to read but don’t have time for, you hit read later and it instantly adds it to your pocket. That's your special place for articles to read, all in one nice and easy format. Available on ios5 only. Free

First Aid by American Red Cross, one of those we don't want to have to use but good to have. The official American Red Cross First Aid app puts expert advice for everyday emergencies in your hand. Free

If you are still looking for apps to make your life as a mommy just that little extra easier, fun and organized... check out Moms with apps. It breaks down all of the best apps for moms in various categories. The "new" section will keep you in the loop with all the up and coming apps. Great resource to help moms find the right apps.

Back to School Exhbition round up...

Yesterday, Luella and I visited the Back to School exhibition at Meydan. She loved all the fun goodies and samples she accumulated threw out the afternoon. Face painting, animal presentation from Al Ain Zoo, Story time and dance moves were also very entertaining.

Back to school: Mommy beauty update 1

After a few back to school posts for the kids, I thought I will share with you some Back to School / Back to Work for us mommy! September is the beginning of a new season, and I always look forward to a wardrobe and beauty routine update! For us leaving in Dubai, it does not feel like autumn is on it's way yet but somehow I like to follow on the fall trends and update my hair color to darker and warmer hues.

After years of a combination of home hair coloring kit and pricey salon coloring visit, I feel like I find a great compromise for my hair: Kelly Van Gogh Masterblend Luxuary hair color system. This is a luxury home coloring kit with salon results!

I loved how shiny and soft my hair got. My hair looks darker than I was expecting, but I really like the color, I choose 4G - light golden brown. It is a deeper and richer version of my natural hair color. The color is more multi-dimensional than the other at-home hair color kits I've tried. The over all condition of my hair seems to have improved as well, like after a deep conditioning treatment. No over processed feeling!

It was not too difficult to apply but it's important to really shake the product very well for an easy application and for long hair like mine I would suggest two packs. Also, be prepared to wait 45min for the color to develop. It's gentle on your hair so it needs more time for the active ingredients to do their magic! It's like taking your hair to the spa. This luxury kit is infused with caviar oil repairing system, keratin and amino proteins to repair and boost the quality of the hair.

I would recommend you have a look at www.kellyvangogh.com, for coloring tips and this video for easy "how to" application.

Kelly Van Gogh Master Blend Multi-Dimentional Luxuary hair color kit (long name!) is available at Bloomingdales, Jet Set Emirates Towers & Grosvenor House, Make Up Etc in Palm Strip Mall, Milk & Honey and online at glambox.me and namshi.com. Retail price is AED145. The price difference from supermarket bought color kit is to me justify with the quality of this luxury treatment and the result on my hair. Lets see how it fades in the next month… but I have good feeling! Keep you posted!

Style for your walls

The end of the summer holidays and September coming fast I feel inspired to get organized with our wardrobe, declutter our home, update our linen and refresh our living room with new decorative cushions and soft rugs. Spring may be the season of cleaning out and brightening up the house but fall can be equally inspiring. I feel the need to go check out Ikea and Crate and Barrel for a quick fix to my tingly home decor crave.

While surfing online the Dubai home decor scene, I came across Takiwall. There is over one thousand Wall Stickers to choose from. Organised in category like Modern, Calligraphy, Abstract, Animal, FaceMe, Kids, ... You should easily find a design to brighten up your wall.

Wall Design Stickers are a great option for nursery and children room, have a look you might be inspired!

A Touch Of Love this Ramadan

Ramadan is an occasion to help out the ones in need and to give back to our community. For those of you who are in Dubai during the Holy Month of Ramadan please go down to the mall and spare some clothes for charity.

Comfort Creation's initiative: ”Share A Touch Of Love this Ramadan” is a Ramadan charity campaign that encourages the people of the UAE to donate clothes to those less fortunate than themselves. All clothes are collected in a giant Comfort Creations bottle, which is decorated with the hand prints of each donor, creating a colourful and physical representation of their charitable acts. Every supporter of the campaign will be thanked with a 750ml bottle from the new Comfort Creations range which offers “Long Lasting Freshness with Dazzling Fragrances” in one of the two new fragrance combinations: Gardenia & Violet or Rose & Jasmine.

Comfort Creations donation booths are located at Mall of the Emirates and Deira City Center Malls from 15 – 31 July and at Mirdif City Center Mall from 15 July – 14 August in collaboration with UAE Red Crescent, who will distribute the apparel collected to those in need.

Sponsored Video: Domestos & UNICEF against the Global Sanitation Crisis

I try everyday to feel a sense of gratitude, love and appreciation for what I have. Unfortunately it's easy to take for granted the basic privileges that are given to us. The short video campaign below reminded me how fortunate we are to have basic sanitation like access to toilet and hygiene practice.

Let me tell you more about the initiative behind this video.

Domestos and the Unilever Foundation have joined forces with UNICEF to promote awareness on the sanitation crisis in order to reduce disease transmission. There is an estimated 2.5 billion people around the world who do not have access to proper sanitation, a basic human right. The program, Community Approaches to Total Sanitation (CATS) is in action in 50 countries around the world and has already improved the lives of 13.5 million people.

So, how can we help and be part of this initiative?
By purchasing specially marked bottles of Demestos bleach (available in Dubai supermarket), which will contribute 5% of average proceeds to CATS programs in South Sudan and Vietnam. If you would like to know more about the partnership, get Facebook and Twitter badges to help raise awareness check out the website. You can also find a coloring book to get the kids involved.
A little help goes a long way. Spread the word!

Stockholm in my heart…

Stockholm i mitt hjärta... (in my heart)

Our summer holidays have started with our first stop in Sweden from the lovely beach of Skane (south of Sweden) to the beautiful charming capital.

If you ever visit the capital of Scandinavia with children, make sure to check out Junibacken. This fairytale house in Stockholm is home to the wonderful world of children's books. Dedicated to the fantastic Swedish Author Astrid Lindgren and other children's authors / illustrators, Junibacken is inspired by scenes and characters founds in books like Pippi Longstocking.
